Weekend Walking Kit Lists: wild camp in the Lakes Boots These should be full grain leather boot to help support and protect the foot. For prolonged winter the walking the boots should be able to take a walking C1 crampon Socks There are lots of opinions when it comes to socks. All I will say on the matter is what ever suits your feet and boots. Always wear good quality socks such as Smartwool and bridgedale. Also uses the right sock for the purpose it was designed for. Gaiters These are optional and all but high altitude kit lists, they are there to provide additional protection to the legs and boots and also helps when crossing streams Base Layers This wick moisture away from your skin, making trekking more bearable. Don’t wear cotton as it holds moisture and will keep you cold e.g. The North Face or Icebreaker Mid Layer This is a midwieght fleece or softshell which will keep the core of the body warm. Some fleeces have wind resistant. Were as all softshells have this in some form or another. Arcertyx or mountain equipment make excellent softshells. There are loads of good fleece manufacturers. Walking Trousers These should be very comfortable and have a good cut to provide good movement. Depending on the type of walking and the time of year depends on the trouser that you use again, either softshell, lightweight trek trouser or fleece Waterproof jacket Gore-tex, Gore-tex XCR or eVENT must have a hood, don’t use paclite as it is a little to light weight and does not have the abrasion resistance of XCR e.g. MTN equipment Changabang, Arc’teyx Alpha SV, Marmot Pillar Waterproof trousers Again Gore Tex or eVENT ideally should have full length zips; these are helpful when you have a call of nature or putting them on over boots. E.g. Rab Latok, Mtn Equipment kongour. Spare clothing - Mid layer Trousers Spare socks and Underwear Warm Hat/ balaclava Warm fleece hat or balaclava to keep heat in (You lose 25% of your heat though your head) Gloves Power stretch gloves or thin fleece gloves. These are to fit comfortably inside the outer mitt e.g. Mtn hardwear power stretch, Outdoor Designs stretchon fleece liner. Tent two man* This is to provide protection from the elements. Semi geodesic (see tent selection guide) around the 3kg mark would be a good choice the makes to look at are. North face tadpole and the Lightwave G1 Ion Sleeping bag Synthetic will be better for this country as it will perform better as there is not the extereme temperature range also as we are quite a wet country the synthetic if it gets wet will still provide warmth e.g mountain hardwear fuji, Mountain Equipment Sleepwalker 2 Roll mat or inflatable mat Cooker and fuel* Pans* First aid kit Esstenial piece of kit, needs to have the basics for first aid platers and bandages tape sissorsas Emergency food This needs to be high carbrohydrate food and also fast acting. The food should be things like SIS Go Gel. 60-70L Rucksack Hydration device or water bottle Head Torch plus spare batteries Whistle Survival Bag / Bothy shelter* Map Of the area NW lakes 1:25000 Type 4 compass Trekking Poles (optional) 30m rope* Equipment marked with the * is the group kit and is to be carried between the each of the team www.snowandrock.com
