Terms & Conditions

The information published on this site is offered in good faith and is correct at the time of publishing. Wilderness Lectures is governed by English law.

Information for our audience

Descriptions of lecture contents and speaker's biographical information are provided by each speaker. Wilderness Lectures is unable to offer any guarantee of the accuracy of this information.
The Wilderness Lectures' website offers the definitive programme and may vary from that previously advertised.

Changes to the programme and refunds

Due to circumstances beyond our control, it may be necessary to change the programme from that previously advertised, at short notice. Occasionally speakers have to withdraw from our programme due to personal circumstances.

  • In such an event, we will endeavour to replace the speaker with another interesting speaker. We will try to ensure that the subject is similar but cannot guarantee that this will be the case. We will announce any change by email and on our website at the earliest opportunity.
  • Where this is not satisfactory to a member of the audience, refunds for e-tickets will be available through Eventbrite until the day preceding the lecture. These will be subject to any charge levied by Eventbrite

Lectures normally start at 19.30 hrs. Individuals not taking their seats by 19.25 hrs may find that their seats have been reallocated and that no seat is available. In such circumstances Wilderness Lectures may, at the organisers' discretion, refund the ticket cost at the advanced ticket rate.

We regret that we will not be able to refund or exchange tickets in the event that inclement weather makes it difficult or impossible for a ticket holder to attend an event.

We regret that we will not be able to refund or exchange tickets in the event that we are compelled to cancel an event entirely due to circumstances beyond our control. This would include war, terrorist activity or health advice from Government agencies etc. In such circumstances we will endeavour to agree a postponement of the event and honour tickets at that new date.

Lost property

Wilderness Lectures cannot be held responsible for the loss of, or damage to, any personal property or effects.

Refusal of entry

Wilderness Lectures reserves the right to refuse entry.

Season tickets

Information for speakers and potential speakers

We are always interested in approaches from interesting speakers. If you think you have something to offer us, please contact us using the contact form on our website.

If we want you to appear in our series, we will contact you and discuss possible subjects, dates and fees/expenses. We will agree these with you. We will then write to you, confirming the arrangements we have made and our agreement for fees/expenses.

We will ask you to let us know your requirements for audio-visual equipment and we will provide the necessary equipment on the night. We will arrange accommodation for you overnight if this is necessary.

We will ask you to provide a short biography for inclusion in both our brochure and on our website, together with a short summary of your intended lecture. Please explore our site to see examples so that you know what is appropriate. We will also ask you to provide one portrait photograph and one other photograph of yourself 'in action'. Digital images are preferred although we are able to scan photographs or slides. If you send the latter, please ensure that they are suitably packaged and insured - we are not able to accept responsibility for material that is posted to us. We will return them to you by standard post or by Post Office Special Delivery if you ask us to do so.

Shortly before the event, we will contact you as a courtesy, to ensure that you are happy with the arrangements and that we have correctly understood your equipment and accommodation requirements.

We understand that very occasionally things happen, and speakers are unable to attend. In the event that you are due to appear in our series and are unable to do, so we must ask you to let us know as soon as possible. Given sufficient notice, we are normally able to provide our audience with an alternative speaker. However, if you cancel with minimal notice (48 hours or less) or fail to attend the scheduled event, we reserve the right to ask you for compensation to cover our losses. This claim will comprise our fixed costs (venue hire, a proportion of marketing overhead etc), an element for the time and expense of notifying our audience, and an element for loss of profit. The latter will be based on the value of tickets sold, less our fixed costs and agreed speaker fees. In the event that we are unable to reach an amicable agreement for compensation, we reserve the right to take legal action.

Any arrangement with you is made on the condition that you do not accept any other invitations to speak within a 20-mile radius of the venue in advance of the date we agree with you, unless you have notified us of such an event prior to reaching agreement with us. We insist on this to ensure that our potential audience is not reduced in order to protect the costs we will have invested in staging the event for you. Should you breach this condition we reserve the right to reduce the fee that we had previously agreed with you by 50%.

Acceptance of a speaker booking represents acceptance of these terms and conditions.
